The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) is a national, high-school science competition administered by the Consortium for Ocean Reasearch and Education. It uses a quiz-bowl format, with lockout buzzers and extended team challenge questions to test students on their knowledge of oceanography.

Started in 1998, this competition has generally been dominated by teams from New England, although teams from other regions have shown great success in recent years.

Winners

• Lexington High School in Lexington, Massachusetts won the first 5 National Ocean Science Bowls, from 1998 to 2002.
• Cranston West High School was the winner of the 2005 National Ocean Science Bowl (and 2003 NOSB) and won a trip to swim with the dolphins in Hawaii.
• Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, headed by Douglas Grant, won second place in the 2005 NOSB, its best placing ever. It won a trip to Bermuda.
• Mission San Jose High School, the 2004 NOSB Champions and 2003 runner-up, won third place in the 2005 NOSB and a trip to Catalina Island.
• Oconee County High School, a landlocked team from Georgia, won fourth place in the 2005 NOSB and a trip to the Great Lakes.
